Motor Oil: Debunking the Myths

How often should you change your car's motor oil? If you answered every 3,000 miles, you could be wrong. It's a myth, and it's not the only one.

Some automobiles do need oil changes every 3,000 miles. Their manufacturer recommends it, but other manufacturers may recommend 4,000-mile changes or 7,000 or another mileage interval. Check your vehicle owner's manual to find the right interval to change your oil, which could save you time and money. Another myth is that you don't need a new oil filter with every oil change. Absolutely change that filter when you change the oil. The older filter may have contaminants trapped inside that could get into the new oil and potentially damage the engine.
